Meet the Dedicated Team from BCHVWG Coalition

Maria Elena Maestas, Coalition Coordinator/ UHVCIRS Project Director: Maria Elena Maestas attended UNM and started her career with the APS Security Police Department, where she was responsible for picking up children who were neglected and abused.  She took statements from the children, escorted them to the All Faiths Receiving Home, and prepared cases for court.  When this became a revolving door and too difficult to continue, Maria moved to the Human Resources Department, was certified in teaching MS Office, and supervised the IT Department, creating a Human Resources Database for all Teachers and certified staff to facilitate hiring.  Maria retired from the Maintenance and Operations Emergency Center/Facilities Planning as a supervisor, where she also implemented the district’s leading-edge work order system. Later, Maria worked in Human Resources for Pulte Homes.  Maria was hired by an engineering company where she became the Business Operations Manager.  Four years ago, Maria was asked to apply and was chosen to lead the BCHVWG Coalition for ECECD’s Early Childhood.  Maria felt this was the best way to assist the most vulnerable children and families through home visiting and to work on the side of prevention. Maria is passionate about collaboration, the children in Early Childhood, and the families who need resources.
