Language access Month of Action: A “One Albuquerque” Showcase

Date: Wednesday, April 15th, 2026 from 10 am to 12 noon.

Venue: Civic Plaza (1 Civic Plaza NW, Albuquerque, NM)

Target Audience: City employees, local community organizations, and the general public.

Event Co-organized by: The Office of Equity and Inclusion and APD Language Access Division.

Sponsors: City of Albuquerque Economic Development and Babel Translations.

Objective:

Language Access Month of Action” event for the City of Albuquerque. It is designed to showcase the progress made under the 2021 Language Access Resolution (R-21-231) and connect city departments with the community they serve.

One of the Mayor Keller’s top priorities for the next four years is to make government more accessible to community members.

What to expect:

 

  • Special Guests: Mayor Tim Keller, APD Chief Cecily Barker, APD Lt. Jennifer Garcia and OEI Deputy Director Nina Cooper.
  • City Vendors showcasing: Best practices and accessibility in government.
  • Community Organization Vendors
  • Language Access Vendors

 

ü  Translations: Display of “Vital Documents” translated into top languages. Documents such as registration forms, permit forms, other in multiple languages.

ü  Technology: Demonstrations of multilingual website navigation by using Google Translate.

ü  Interactive Elements: Distribution of “I-Speak” cards and posters to help residents identify their primary language to city staff. OEI will provide these cards to all the attendees.

ü  Hands on Learning: The office of Civic Engagement will provide an interactive demonstration in how to engage LEP (Limited English Proficient) constituents by using signs, and images, best practices.
